Contribution? Sub-Store? New Site?

I spent alot of time improving my SEO and am seeing huge improvements in where I am shown in searches. I am based and target pretty much only Canadian Customers due to the very competitive nature of the business in the US and my previous low rankings.

Now with the jumps in search results I am thinking I could generate some income by offering to US customers again. I have my site setup for Canada based on pricing etc already so changing it would take alot of time. I was thinking if there is a contribution to allow different prices for each currency that would be great. But then I ran into a snag, many of my items require shipping quotes within Canada but my goal is to just offer free shipping for the US side since everything would be drop shipped within the US. So that kind of killed using a contribution I think unless someone has a suggestion to avoid that problem.

My other thought was to create a sub-store on the same domain and just copy the database and store over and make the changes for it to be in US. This sounds like a good idea but it raises a few questions for me. Firstly I have my google WMT set for the site geographically to Canada. Second If I have the same content, products etc on the same site just slightly different URL it may hurt the site with "duplicate content" ?

So would the best option be to create a whole new domain/site?

Thanks in advance

Something similar this was discussed by users not too long ago. Read these two threads:

Multiple Domain Names And Optimising Oscommerce

Two Stores, One Shopping Cart

Basically what you need is achievable, it requires some patience but can easily be done and give you great SEO using dynamic metatags if that is the route you choose.

Read through the posts in the two threads I linked above. Pay attention especially to my replies and make a start on your project. If you get stuck or need any help post back here and someone will be on-hand to guide you along.

I wish you success

Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back!

Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you?

There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere.

Thanks for the reply, I looked through the threads and those are good solutions but I still have concerns.

All the pricing and shipping stuff would be different for the US only store compared to my Canada Only store I have now.

I am leaning towards a new domain being the way to go my only concern with this would be how the pages would compete against each other since they would have the same info per say.
