Site hacked, want to reinstall, how do I save data?

Hi,

My site has been hacked, plastered with links to a page about the "USS Ashland".

Anyway, it was my first attempt with OSC, and it is quite messy anyway, so I'd actually like to do a clean install of the software, redo all the addons ect and make it more secure.

If I was to reinstall, what would be the best way to go about it? How would I save all my customers, orders, shipping pages ect?

Thanks a lot,

Adam

Your PC has probably been compromised: Read This

Make sure you disinfect/clean your PC before uploading the new install of oscommerce

Upon receiving fixes and advice, too many people don't bother to post updates informing the forum of how it went. Until of course they need help again on other issues and they come running back!

Why receive the information you require in good faith for free, only to then have the attitude to ignore the people who gave it to you?

There's no harm in saying, 'Thanks, it worked'. On the contrary, it creates a better atmosphere.

I've been searching but I can't seem to find it anywhere... how can I packup the data I will need in the new installation? I think this is all I need to know before I reinstall it.

Cheers

By 'data' I presume you mean your product images and the product prices. If that is the case and going by the presumption that you did not modify the graphics and layout of your oscommerce store, then follow these steps:

1) Use your FTP program and back-up the catalog/images or root/images folder to your desktop.

2) Go to your store admin area, go to the tools infobox and click 'backup'. After that download the backup of your database on to your desktop. I have never known any database to be compromised when an oscommerce site has been compromised as per the link provided to other thread - so your database should be fine.

3) You say all you need to know is how to backup the data and you know how to re-install, so go ahead and do it. Once your store is working, go back to the admin backup area and use the upload feature to upload your backed up database from your desktop. If that fails then use your FTP program to move that file from your desktop to the catalog/admin/backups folder. Once there refresh your admin backups page and it will appear in the list. Just select that file and press 'restore' then your previous prices and so on will be on your store front.

There are other ways to achieve what you want but if you are not too clued up on oscommerce and websites in general then this is probably the best way for you.

I wish you success
