ehendley
I have added META tag keywords and description to my index.php page but that is for the whole site. I would like to be able to change these based on the category of the product the customer chooses to fine tune the search results. This would be extremely helpfull since we offer my wife's own products (doll fashions) and other collectibles from a dropshipper on dreamdolldesigns.com. Has anyone had any related experience in accomplishing this or similar goals? We have a vanilla osCommerce v2.2 RC2 hosted setup so if I think I know what contris and add-ons are that may not be a solution for us (unless I am allowed to upload new modules, add-ons, etc?) thanks, ed
Jack_mcs
Your question isn't clear to me. It sounds like you want the search results in the site to include the meta tags. Is that correct? ehendley
To try to clarify. The vanilla osCommerce comes with no meta tags for keywords or description as it should not. I have modified the index.php file (my homepage) to include these. Since this is a dynamic site that reuses the same page to show the various products we offer, these keyworks / descriptions will always be on every product category page. I would like to tailor my keywords / descriptions based on the category selected by the customer. If this were done in anything but PHP I could figure it out pretty easily. So my question is has anyone already tweaked their keywords / descriptions on dynamic pages in osCommerce to avoid search engine penalties for redundant use of the same keywords / descriptions on multiple pages on an eCommerce site? My thoughts are to capture the category selected by the customer and dynamically add meta data at the DOM level but I may be trying to make this too complicated. Any and all thoughts are appreciated ... who knows ... it may spark a new idea or approach :) thanks, ed
Jack_mcs
Oh, I understand now. You need to install one of the meta tags contributions. I recommend Header Tags SEO (see my addons) but there are many others. Collines
The contribution for header tags that requires hardly any effort to install is..... KissMT Dynamic SEO Meta & Canonical Header Tags
ehendley
Thanks for the help guys! I took a look at Header Tags 3.0 but that looked a little involved to me at the moment ... may move to that in the future though. Took a look at KissMT and it says to install in catalog/includes/modules/ ... I don't have a catalog folder! I do have an /includes/modules/ folder under my public_html and www directories off the root ... does it go there? Actually, I believe in public but www looks to be a mirror of that ... one, the other, or both? r/ ed
ehendley
For now I have opted for KissMT and the install was very simple. One question though ... my hope page title now is: My Great Product Range - Full Range of Wiggets - Buy from Dream Doll Designs I can't seem to find where this is to modify it. Does anyone know where to change this? thanks, ed
