mattstewart1979
usual warning, that is usually sorted by changing the permissions, but i've tried with 600 and with 400 as the permissions, and i'm still getting the error: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/(site-url)/public_html/shop/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file. anyone got any ideas? apache server, with php and mysql. Collines
According to the osCommerce knowledge base: Reset the permissions on catalog/includes/configure.php to 644 (if you are still getting the warning message at the top of the page after setting this configure.php files to 644 then set the catalog/includes/configure.php file to 444 which is read only - this happens on some servers that have been updated for security reasons). MrPhil
There are (at least) two configure.php files. Are you hitting both/all of them? 444 should be "read only" on any Linux server. You're on Linux, right? 644 is read-write by owner, but read-only on configurations where PHP/Apache are running as "group" or "other". Read http://www.catskilltech.com/freeSW/SMF/faqs/index.html#perm for more information. Usually the answer is "your server isn't letting you change permissions via FTP client", but you say that you've confirmed that it did change (also by hosting service control panel file manager), so that's not it. Clear your browser cache just in case you're still picking up an old cached page.

mattstewart1979
not such a mystery - i've now tried to install STS v4.6, and it's giving me the same error again. strange, as it doesn't overwrite the config file, so i guess there's some kind of bug in one of the other new files which is causing it.
