Linking to an external database via ODBC

Hi all

 

I'm currently setting up a database in Filemaker that will hold data on my products. I would like to update my products within oscommerce from my Filemaker database via ODBC. How would I link my products from Filemaker (which have a product ID generated by Filemaker) to the products table in oscommerce? I am new to mySQL btw.

Would I link my ProductID in Filemaker to products_id in the products and products_description table.

 

Would I be right in assuming when a new product is added via the admin in oscommerce an automatically generated product_id is created? I would only be adding new products via ODBC so can I give the product_id field whatever value I wish within the sql tables?

 

I am new to mySQL btw.
