domain name

my website was hacked and compromised, so i had to erase my public html files and re-transfer the osc files. now when i re-install oscommerce, my domain name has added /osc/install/index.php to it. if i log on to the original domain name, it says INDEX with osc/ below it. if i click on the osc/, the website comes up. this is not acceptable because all my marketing has the original shorter domain name. please help!

I think you uploaded your files in the osc directory. You should probably start over and upload your files into your website root directory. (Probably public_html)

i am every time loading into public html, but osc adds itself as a folder, and then adds itself to the domain name. i can't do anything to stop it.

Then you probably have the files STORED in an osc folder at the source. Things just don't happen on their own.

Ok, I realize you are probably frustrated here, but let's look a little closer, ok.

You are not using a Fantastico or other automated install by you host, are you? I assume you are not.

You have your osc files stored on your local pc and your are uploading them to your host, is that correct?

What folder do you have your files stored in on your local pc?

the files were sent from templatetuning.com when they changed my logo. i also had them transfer the files into the domain. the two folders under the file were "changes" and "osc". i have been just transferring the osc files. the header file was "res_script_02_24_10". should i be transfering that entire file instead of tjust the osc files?

Ok, then, start with a completely empty root directory on your web space. That is usually the public_html directory.

Start your ftp program and connect to your host and navigate to your public_html directory.

On the local side of your ftp program navigate to AND OPEN the osc folder and any subsequent folder so that you see the following files/directories:

admin

download

ext

images

includes

install

pub

.htaccess

account.php

account_edit.php

account_history.php

account_history_info.php

account_newsletters.php

etc

etc

Now, select everything on the local side of your ftp program, and transfer them to your public_html directory.

That should put everything in the place that you want. This, of course, is how it should work. If you have already installed osC then you will have to delete the database and remove all files and directories before you start this.

If you want to test this before you install osC then make a simple index.html file with nothing in it but the word 'test' and upload it to the public_html directoy. Then browse to your_domain.com and see if you get 'test' returned to your browser. If so, then do as above and your osC install should be where you want it.
