Can't see product in categories...

After getting an e-mail from a customer, I headed to my site to find out that all the products under the categories had disappear in both the catalog and admin. I check the database and everything was there...what gives?

Can some help? is this possibly to php 4.3 upgrade? If so is there a fix?

Thanks in advance for your help!

is this possibly to php 4.3 upgrade?

I would say that is a definate possiblity. there are several threads dealing with php 4.3 upgrade problems. Try a search of the forums.

I did search and there was only one person having the same complain. But someone else pointed that it was possibly due to a recent IE patch update.

I am on a shared server so I do not think that I have access to the php.ini to do any of the fixes that are suggested!

Any other thoughts?

Definate weirdness going on....I can get to the products in the Christening Category but not in the wedding category.....I don't think it's the php problem.

Have you changed anything? Added any new features?

Not even in the Christening category if you go deep enough. See when you click on a top category you see the products in the "new for this month". But if you go deeper in the sub-category there are no products.

No I have not changed anything...I have even try to restore a very old back-up file and I get the same thing...that's why I tend to blame it to php 4.3

Yes it is 4.3.

The funny thing is that I have another oscommerce site with a december 2002 snapshot and that works fine.

There are quite a few difference between these snapshots and that is way I did not want to change the no-working site to the newer snapshot.

I checked on the bugs list and it seems that there is an open issue :

...and what does your host have to say? If they aren't willing to work with you I'd suggest a new host. Please don't ask for recommendations on the forum.

You know most hosting co's will upgrade to 4.3 (sooner or later). So I think that OSCom needs to adapt to this.

Like I said above it seems to be a bug for some snapshots...and there is an bug issue currently open.

Lasty, I am aware about the forum rules...and I would not ask host recommendations here... (how irrelevant! )

First, I'm very happy to see that you are familiar with the forums rules. Asking about hosting recommendations after the suggestion about changing hosts would have been the next question many people would have asked, hence my remark.

Second, do you seriously think that everything should come to a screeching halt for a problem with a small minority of OSC users? The Devs are aware of the issue and it is on the workboard to address the register_globals compatibility before the MS4 issue.

Now, have you spoken to your host about changing back to an earlier version of php? Is it the register_globals that is causing your problems or another default setting in the php.ini? Which of the fixes have you tried?

BirdBrain,

I thank for trying to help.

However, I think your are NOT reading my posts carefully. I never suggested that OSCom should come to screeching halt...what I said it was "...that OSCom needs to adapt to this"...meaning 4.3!

I do not have the expectation that the development community should solve my problem...as I can not have my hosting provider to roll back to earlier version...like you said just for a small group of people.

Now having explained myself, let me tell you that the same problem occurs in php 4.2.x. I just restore the whole site to another hosting account that I have that has php 4.2.x

Now I have tried prety much everything that is described in the two links that you provided above and I have done extensive search for other possible solutions in the forum...with not avail.

I believe the problem is a combo of the specific snapshot AND the 4.3/4.2.

The reasons for posting in this forum are two:

1)To see if a user may have had the same problem and if they have found a solution

2)To make people aware that a problem such as this exist...and hopefully a solution may come about down the road.

I never posted here with the intention to complain towards oscomm (...I'd like to stress this and make it crear to you or anybody else).
