how to set up a single product which is actually multiple products

Hi All -

Total noob here -- I'm needing to do something specific with gift certificate sales. Basically, I want the user to see a single icon / product on the screen which represents a single type of certificate. However, the certificate itself is an image (they are just buying a bitmap / barcoded type of thing). This presents the problem of needed to have what is in effect multiple *different* images, all represented by a single icon/product. Ideally it would still be able to say how many are "in stock" even though technically each instance of this product is unique (because each one will have a different barcode / certificate number). Any clue on how to do this?
