martinstan
I know this is an obvious answer but make sure you have uploaded all the files. It's quite an easy install and generally has no issues. Run through the whole process again especially if you are a newbie. have you done this step: 3. For adding link to the Admin, edit file admin/includes/boxes/catalog.php. ## After: '<a href="' . tep_href_link(FILENAME_PRODUCTS_ATTRIBUTES, '', 'NONSSL') . '" class="menuBoxContentLink">' . BOX_CATALOG_CATEGORIES_PRODUCTS_ATTRIBUTES . '</a><br>' . ## Add this: '<a href="' . tep_href_link('easypopulate.php', '', 'NONSSL') . '" class="menuBoxContentLink">Easy Populate</a><br>' . mickthehat
started on this early last week. 1st attempt forgot to set the file permissions (did not know that at the time) removed uploaded program folders in reverse order and over wrote /catalog/admin/includes/boxes/catalog.php with file from previous backup (i know that worked because the file sizes were different. (starting to get the feel of how to upload) 2nd attempt done exactly the same thing again (feeling more comfortable with it now) 3rd attempt last night. remembered to set the file permissions this time. followed the instructions to a T. Question:- am i right in thinking that there will be a visable sign of easy populate in my 'online merchant administration tool' (the same place that i configured my store) i see that i am not alone with this problem spike204 0ct 15 2009 seemed to be asking the same question but there dos'nt seem to be an answer, just referals back to the installation instructions
martinstan
Hi Mick yes you should see it in the left column, I believe under either Configuration or Catalog. It will say 'easy populate' martin
mickthehat
no nothing there one more question. step 6 mentions large data files. the website is in a linux/apache envoronment. the site is under construction at the moment and as such i am not moving many files around so is the php.ini file essential or is it to be set up if there is a problem. the link from step 6 is'nt very helpful if it is essential then i will get on to my host to enquire. if not then i'm going to bed. mickthehat
hurrah. found the problem. the install instructions mention that we will be working with the following files BUT HAVE OMITED ITEM 8 (STEP 3) FROM THE LIST ITEM 6 IS NOT MENTIONED IN ANY OF THE STEPS AND SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE LIST IN STEP 1 /catalog/admin/easypopulate.php STEP 1 /catalog/admin/easypopulate_functions.php STEP 1 /catalog/admin/EPDocumentation/index.html STEP 1 * /catalog/admin/EPDocumentation/contents.html STEP 1 * THESE 3 FILES ARE UPLOADED AS A FOLDER /catalog/admin/EPDocumentation/links.html STEP 1 * /catalog/admin/includes/classes/table_block.php THIS ITEM IS OMITED FROM ANY OF THE STEPS AND SHOULD BE UPLOADED IN STEP 1 /catalog/temp/ STEP 2 THIS FILE HAS BEEN OMITED FROM THE LIST BUT IS COVERED IN STEP 3 /catalog/admin/includes/boxes/catalog.php STEP 3 is there a way to have this added to the install instructions as i see at least 2 other people have been to the forum for the same problem. many thanks to martinstan for his time and effort this morning. i am now a very happy bunny (untill i try to configure it) Mick
♥geoffreywalton
is there a way to have this added to the install instructions as i see at least 2 other people have been to the forum for the same problem. Yes, you can correct the instructions and upload the "correct" version. Just go to the page where you downloaded Easy Populate, you can do it from there. You do not have to be a code guru to contribute to the osc community. :-) Cheers G Need help installing add ons/contributions, cleaning a hacked site or a bespoke development, check my profile Virus Threat Scanner My Contributions Basic install answers. ballparq1
Mick, I am very new to this as well and have no idea what Im doing or where to start. I had a guy who was starting my store for me with osCommerce and he passed away in December. Now, Im trying to do this myself. Im not a total idiot but Im not a web site developer or a programmer. Can you please share with me the steps involved to add the Easy Populate? Where do I find it? How do I make it work with my osCommerce? I stalled the osCommerce on my web host site not on my computer and they are no help whatsoever. I have over 2000 items to add and its hard to believe oS doesnt have a bulk upload tool already installed. Otherwise it looks like a nice tool. Thanks in advance. Jim To find the contrib go <a href="http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/500">here</a>'>http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/500">here</a> http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/500 follow the instructions to the letter. And as far as stalling your shop, just re-install oscommerce. and install the add-on easy populate. All add-ons come with usually two folders labeled admin and catalog. all you have to do is upload all file in those two folders to their respective folders on your site. the text files give you instructions on how to modify the individual php files. I suggest making backups of your site within the admin area of oscommerce under the tools heading on the bottom left hand side. once you get easy populate installed make a sample csv file by adding one product to your catalog and then going to the easy populate admin page (it should be under your catalog box with the heading easy populate if you did it correctly) and on the bottom of the page it should have a option to download a csv file. Only do this step after you manualy add at least one product to your catalog. Open the sample csv file that you downloaded in excel and save it as a template. You should be able to figure out what heading does what. And don't forget to upload your pictures to your images folder. Always backup your files! You will be glad you didMy add-ons :SSPP Seperate Shipping Per Product v2.5| SupportGift vouchers for SPPC 4.22 v2.1 | Support |Catalog Infobox v1.0 | Sorry no support for Catalog Infobox |HTML Mail v2.0 | Support |Upcoming Add ons:Addon Manager | Separate Pricing Per Product Qty |Coupon Populate | EZ-PDF Catalog

mickthehat
if you download the contribution from surfalot dated 3 aug 2009 and the add to the instructions:- add to list of files/folders we will be working with:- catalog/admin/includes/boxes/catalog.php add to step 1:- catalog/admin/includes/classes/table_block.php into admin folder. as for you not having a copy of your website on your computor, if you have a file manager within your C. panel you should have an option to download files. if you are using an FTP connect to your server and just drag the files from your website and drop them into your computor. you can work on your computor files offline and when you have finished drag them back to your website to overwrite the original file with the changes
