♥mdtaylorlrim
Hi all , I need somebodys help if possible. I need to transfer my oscommerce store too another hosting company. I do not have a clue about ftp. Any help would be greatful Well, you are just going to have to locate and learn to use an FTP program. There are dozens out there and I have no recommendations for any in particular. I use one that I have been using for 15 years or so. I don't like change... You will also have to make sure your current hosting company gives you access to phpMyAdmin, as does your new host. You will have to be able to manually back up and restore your database. Get familiar with using phpMyAdmin so you are not afraid of it. Know that if you have your own domain name that you cannot move that domain away from your current host until you have all the backups you need. You may have to learn how to access your old and/or your new site by something other than your own domain name. Community Bootstrap Edition, Edge Avoid the most asked question. knifeman
ok i am using FileZilla for the ftp I keep getting the following error Connection attempt failed with "EAI_NODATA - No address associated with nodename". Error: Could not connect to server You will need to use FTP at some point to continue maintaining your site, but a quick tip today is some hosts will transfer your site for you. Give your old Cpanel login to your new host. They can zap the whole thing to their server in no time. Tim
♥mdtaylorlrim
ok i am using FileZilla for the ftp I keep getting the following error Connection attempt failed with "EAI_NODATA - No address associated with nodename". Error: Could not connect to server ftp host is always an ip address. However, any fqdn that can be translated to an ip address would be fine to use. Your domain name should be ok as long as you don't use /catalog/ after it or anything. In some cases, ftp is restricted. If you normally access your site through cPanel look there for instructions to access through ftp. Community Bootstrap Edition, Edge Avoid the most asked question. Guest
Hi... I have a similar issue that I was hoping I can get help on. I am trying to transfer an entire site by using FTP and backend admin area only. I know that through the backend area we can save a backup of the database but was told that without having root access via cpanel (or whatever system the site is on)it will be very difficult to package the website correctly and transfer. I was told there would be a high probability that links will not be working if done only through FTP and backend area, and also we would need the database passwords, which we don't have. Unfortunately, it is very unlikely that I can get the root access/cpanel username and password or the database username and password from the current hosting provider. Is there any type of tool that I can use to help me transfer the site? I would really appreciate your help on how I can transfer the site given my situation. Thank you. ♥mdtaylorlrim
Although my attempt here was to get you to learn to use another tool in your arsenal, be aware the most hosting companies will transfer all of your site from your old to your new for you. Just ask. But be sure and ask specifically if they can move an osCommerce site... Community Bootstrap Edition, Edge Avoid the most asked question. See How to Secure My Site and How do I...?
