pennyshilling Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 My osCommerce online store was set up way back in early 2003 and has been having some problems for some time now. From what I understand from reading here in the forums, that my version is so old it is unable to be upgraded so that's a real pain. Hence my understanding then is, that I will have to set up a whole new store from scratch. So my question.... as it is going to take me a good while to start from scratch and configure a site, should I be using V2 or going in with v3.5 alpha? I reckon it will take me a good 6 months to get it ready. The new version has many of the features I'm needing and wanting to set up now.... but is it ok use it right now? Thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

Guest Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Debbie, There is only one version right ready for use. Since V3.0 is and alpha, with very few contributions and little to no support, V2.2 RC2a is the only real choice. Chris
♥mdtaylorlrim Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 Alpha versions are NOT production ready. You can either wait for the long overdue version 2.3 or install the latest 2.2rc2a Community Bootstrap Edition, Edge Avoid the most asked question. See How to Secure My Site and How do I...?
pennyshilling Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 Thanks for the replies. I figured that alpha version was not the way to go. Spooks .. just checked yep My version is 2.2 MS1...so am I right is saying that this version can not be upgraded? For the new site I was also wanting to offer product for sale via download...as well as a separate wholesale store for members with different price structure? Am I right in thinking these options will not be possible with current version? Thanks again, :) Deb
Jack_mcs Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 You can check the link in my signature to find which version you have. Whichever version it is, it can be updated. However, since you are going to need the Separate Pricing contribution, I wouldn't attempt it since that contribution is very difficult to install on any version that has changes. You would be best off installing a new shop usnig RC2 and then just using the copy method to install Separate Pricing. That will save you a trememdous amount of work and worry. pennyshilling Posted February 26, 2010 Author Posted February 26, 2010 Thanks Jack ..yep it is MS1. I'll go look for info now on using the 'copy method to install Separate Pricing' thanks for tip re saving on the time and worry. :) Will I be able to sell product via download in the current version..I have been trying to verify this?
Jack_mcs Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 Yes, selling by download works in any version of oscommerce. Search the forums for product attributes for more information on that.
