jinxxer
hi, i'm new to oscommerce - i've read most of the threads regarding this 'common' error: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/mydomain/public_html/mystore/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file. and i've tried to change the permissions through my ftp editor in cpanel - it looks like it keeps resetting itself. i'm still configuring the store for cosmetic changes - does that have anything to do with resetting the permissions on that file? thanks for any help, callie

There is a button at the top to change permissions on a highlighted file. thanks so much, although i think i got it working now - once i changed the permission, i hit 'reload' or 'refresh' and it had the new permission settings in place. i'm pretty sure i was doing something to not set it in the first place. thanks! ;) callie

brata
Everyone is talking about changing the permissions to a number - 444 or 644. My host's control panel has no numbers in the permissions. The only choices are: Web Visible Allows users to browse files and directories using the Web. or Executable Allows users to execute files as scripts. Or it allows Advanced Permissions, which include: Web user permissions: READ, WRITE, or EXECUTE and Owner Permissions: READ, WRITE, or EXECUTE How do the permissions on my webhost (GoDaddy) translate to the numbers 444 or 644? Set the permissions to READ only, across the board. If you need to edit it, you will have to set the OWNER permissions to Read & Write to make the edit. When finished change back to READ only.
