toolance
Hi, I'm new to OSC so please be gentle with me ;) I've installed OSC 2.2 and I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle Canadian GST and PST. Basically how it needs to work is like this: - If a customer specifies Canada as their country the checkout needs to add GST. The customer then needs to specify which Province in Canada to determine if we need to also add PST. We are in BC so we only have to charge PST to customers within our Province. Customers outside BC will not be charged PST. Is this possible with the standard installation or do I need to install a module that will handle it? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Gavin
Guest
Hi Gavin, You can find everything you need in these notes: http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/1124 This will work until the HST is implemented in July so be prepared to change it again. blacknail
Hi Gavin, You can find everything you need in these notes: http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/1124 This will work until the HST is implemented in July so be prepared to change it again. Chris On the point of HST coming in July, Ontario and BC are implementing 'Point of Sale Rebates' on some items. We have a children's store and we've never had to worry about the PST in those provinces but now it is really complicated. For instance, if you buy a point of sale rebated item and a non rebated item in the same order, the tax on the shipping is somehow prorated. If we have a baby bundle with a sleeper and a baby blanket, the whole bundle is point of sale rebated in BC, while the provincial portion of the HST is somehow prorated and charged on the blanket but not the sleeper in Ontario, while everything is HST taxable in Nova Scotia. Does anyone think that this makes sense and what is a small business to do? Thanks!
