gordonm72
Hi We plan a domain change from .co.uk to .com and have decent SERPs thanks to SEO-G. As its such a big change...I just wanted to make sure I am doing it the right way! Step 1 : Point .com domain to new webspace and install fresh osCommerce installation and blank database Step 2 : Backup .co.uk files and database, and restore to new .com space. Step 3 : Check everything works in new installation. Step 4 : Setup 301 redirects from .co.uk to .com Step 5 : Tell google about the name change. Step 6 : Submit new sitemap Think that's it.. does that look ok?
♥mdtaylorlrim
who is hosting the site? I would think all that is required is the configure.php file changes, and in the httpd.conf change your ServerName to the new name, and make ServerAlias the old name. Then put a times page in the index to announce the new domain name and rewrite the url to the new domain name. Why jack with the db? Are you moving servers too? Yeah, that would be less work for sure but the only way I could get it to work {in test my environment} was to create a new webspace and place 301 redirects in the old domain space. I am using SE0-G for the URL re-writes. Was also advised on the google webmaster forum that this is the best way to retain SERPs. Sorry for the newbie question .. but what is a times page? ♥mdtaylorlrim
Sorry for the newbie question .. but what is a times page? A typo, really. Timed, it should have been, or just an intro page that redirects to the store after a few seconds. Community Bootstrap Edition, Edge Avoid the most asked question. gordonm72
rewrite the url to the new domain name. I am not too sure what I am doing tbh! how would I get that to work with the SEO-G re-writes?

So do I not need to copy the site over to a new webspace on my server? I am getting really confused now! as not done this before and its needs to be right first time. If thats the case where do I point my old .co.uk domain to in my hosting cp Regards
