Imaulle Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 hello! so basically.. I'd like to add an option to every product on my site to add insurance. Basically it will cost 25% of the price of the product. and I'd like it to be added to the shopping cart with the purchase... Is there an easy way to go about doing this? or what would you guys recommend? thanks in advance!
Guest Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 John, Here is the shipping insurance contribution: http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/1069 Chris
Imaulle Posted January 19, 2010 Author Posted January 19, 2010 Hey Chris, thanks for the reply. The insurance though is going to be for the item itself. so not really 'shipping' insurance. Can this add-on be moditfyied to show that? Basically it will cost 25% of the item, and it will cover it for 12 months. I guess just a few word edits here and there and it should work for my needs?
Guest Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 John, From what I read on that contribution, it can be set to be valued at a percentage of the cart contents. This is what you need I believe, if not..........just a few tweaks and a new coat of paint and it should run no problem. Chris
Imaulle Posted January 27, 2010 Author Posted January 27, 2010 I can't get this to work :( it will say "there was an error calculating the shipping costs please contact store owner yada yada" is there another way you can think of to do this? maybe make a product and call it "Insurance" and somehow add an option to add it with the product?

Insurance could be an attribute. It would be on a per product basis and not on the entire cart and would either be time consuming to add to each product, or you could form a couple of sql statements to add them in. jhande Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I also vote for the use of attributes to add a product price % for insurance. Probably the easiest way to accomplish it. I don't think the shipping insurance mod will workout for you John. Just my 2 cents! - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
Guest Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 I have used it several times without problem. Perhaps check your installation to ensure it was done correctly. Chris
jhande Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Hey Chris, I am not fimilar with that contribution so I'm wondering... If a customer buys say: Product 1 @ $100.00 Product 2 @ $160.00 Product 3 @ $40.00 The customer can chose to add an extended warranty (insurance) to products 1 & 2 if they want? And it will calculate the correct amount at 25% for each product? The store owner will be notified of which products the warranty was purchased for? - :: Jim :: - - My Toolbox ~ Adobe Web Bundle, XAMPP & WinMerge | Install ~ osC v2.3.3.4 -
