Guest
Hi all, I am seeking some help with a login issue I just came across. After I installed my SSL cert I had no issues with the login or even creating a new account. I never got the pop up normally seen on some sites when registering or loggin in concerning secure non secure items. But I did see the https and the lock symbol. All was well until I went to login to my test account this morning and I for some reason got the pop up on both login and create account. Really didn't give it a thought. Clicked the yes button and got the message "Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site https://www.keystoneairsoft.com/login.php - Operation aborted" Well I tried to create a new account to test that feature and got the same pop-up box and when I clicked yes got the same message about not opening up the address but with /create_account.php. Once in awhile I Can get the create account page to display though. Now I tried the same things in Google Chrome and Firefox and don't have these issues at all and I am not even getting the Secure and non secure items pop up. I have only added 2 contribs since this and they were for attributes only and I don't think that would have any effect on this issue. I have even tried to delete temporary internet files as well as the cookies stored on my computer and did a <ctrl+F5> refresh and still the same thing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much in advance
Guest
Ron, You can thank Bill Gates for all the errors with IE. MS keeps adding, changing, deprecating tags so other Browsers have to keep changing theirs, unfortunately not ALL of them update as much as MS. You can check for cross compatibility but in most cases, I put the statement on the site 'Best Viewed with Firefox' as I can't be bothered trying to keep up with Bill. Guest
Chris, Thanks for your reply. Nah I really don't want to thank him ;). But anyways whats puzzling me is I haven't updated anything on my system have auto update disabled kinda and all was working well Friday and now all the sudden this happened this morning. But yeah I think I will but that little statement on the site just for S&G's sake and hopefully won't have too many people complaining. Not really sure if it is only me or everyone who uses IE thats getting this issue. Ohh well, Again thanks for the info and Hate to say this but THanks Bill for all the troubles :(
FIMBLE
You can check for cross compatibility but in most cases, I put the statement on the site 'Best Viewed with Firefox' as I can't be bothered trying to keep up with Bill. This is a blast from the past! I dont think its a good idea to do this as IE is still a major player and this will put users off the site, and i do not blame them. The solution should be found to this. First off try removing the Flash bar, see if this does it, if not try a bog standard login.php page. This error will happen all over your SSL pages, if you take Chris's advice your customer will be in IE add an item to the cart then go to log in and find they cannot, only getting a message to try in Fire Fox. As a web DEV Chris's advice in this case is poor, (usually very good) Nic Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post My Contributions
Guest
Hi Fimble, Thanks for your reply. Well the flash bar removal seemed to do the trick. Not sure why that would affect the login procedure but apparently it did, well hopefully since I only tried it about 4 times and never got the Interner Explorer cannot open blah blah blah. Again thanks for the reply and the help, very much appreciated. now I am wondering if I put the flash bar elsewhere if it would cause the issue again? FIMBLE
Its not the location of it, its that its a non SSL item in an SSL page. Nic Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post My Contributions
Guest
Ahhh ok, thanks for the info. Much appreciated. I am amazed it took this long to give me these errors as I have had the SSL installed for almost a month now and the flash bar was installed before the SSL. Not one person has complained to me about it and I have had 8 customers sign up since both were installed. Ohh well learn something new everyday I guess. Thanks again. FIMBLE
In Chrome it does not give the error, in Fire Fox either ... it is an IE issue but seeing as lots still do use it then its not a great idea to just dismiss it. Nic PS i dont know who gave the neg, it was not me ! Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post My Contributions
Guest
Hey Nic, Yes usually I offer an honest opinion and pretty damn good advice if I do say so myself. In THIS CASE, being an IE problem that I have come across MANY times, I offered the best advice I could. Obviously someone didn't like my reply and gave a negative response to it. Well TOO BAD ! If someone disagrees with my opinion, please message me, I take PM's and have Email on my profile. I would be more than happy to send you the BOATLOADS of info I have on MS and the way they do things. Chris
Guest
I can say I didn't leave the neg either. To be honest with ya I didn't even know that that was implemented on the forums here. I can say some contributions I had issues with that you helped out along the way were very informative and even if I thought your idea was right or wrong I still would not have given a neg (now that I know what the heck it is). FIMBLE
@ Chris, i do not doubt what you say about MS but thats not a shoppers concern. whilst they are shopping they are concerned with getting their item, and if they go onto a web site that produces errors especially on SSL pages they are going to go elsewhere, the browser is the choice of the user and in a lot of cases they are not going to know about the different types of browser and will use the default one that ships with their OS. The error states there is a problem with the web site and not that its an IE error, so its up to the store owner to make sure it does not happen on their site. IMHO putting better viewed in Fire Fox is not an option. @ Ron, The reputation system is as good an idea as a one legged man at an arse kicking contest Glad you got your site sorted though Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post My Contributions
