Fire Fly
Hello. My second post. Now what I would like to try to do which I'm sure that I will need much help on doing this. Because like I said before I am not a programmer. I would like os commerce to look similar to my web site, http://www.zing-zang.com A banner and overall color scheme be followed through out the web site that is accessible to customers. I do not care about the administration area if that makes things easier. Please take a look and let me know what you think. Would appreciate immensely. Thank you. fred
Guest
Fred, You can easily add the banner to the top of the OSC store. You can also center the store, and duplicate the color scheme. I suggest using STS to create the template. Chris
Fire Fly
hi Chris Thank you again. However you must remember I am not a programmer. And this is all new to me. Is there some tutorials showing you how to do what you are suggesting. I understand when you say osc "os commerce" however I have no idea what STS is. Where to locate whenever STS is. Could use some more help. I rather be making geometry at least in that program I know what I'm doing. Here with osc this is so new to me I am in probably over my head right now drowning. Thank you fred
Guest
Hi Fred, Sure, let me explain a little better. STS is Simple Template System. It is the most commonly used template creation contribution available ( I think ). It allows you to create a standard HTML page, then just insert variables into that HTML page. Here is the kicker, you REALLY need to know HTML to use it. http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/1524 The other thing is, you need to be able to install it. matrix2223
STS is nice for folks that have good skills, but not so easy for someone who know nothing about coding a page. Look around for free osC templates I have around 200 that I have on hand. There is some in the contrib section and with the files is other sites you can look at. Some even have demo shops to look at before you download it. From the image that you linked to a simple css centering and css color a font changes is really all you need to get what you desire. Hope this helps, Eric
Fire Fly
Hi Chris and Eric  Need to know html, :'( actually I leave that to either Front Page, or Dreamweaver cs4, I have no idea what or how html works. That's why my web site is so simple. Actually I am trying to wrap my head around Dreamweaver cs4 right now and that I am having difficulty with that. So therefore possibly looking for something that is close to what I have already would probably work out best, for me or possibly pay someone to come up with something very similar to my homepage. Which is probably too early to begin that because I have not tested the web site to see if it will work. Besides there are some things in their I do not understand what they do. In the administration area that is. So could you please point me towards someone that offers some free osC templates. Would appreciate immensely. So that way I can look for something similar to what I have already. Thank you for your help. fred
Guest
Fred, You can use Frontpage and Dreamweaver to create an HTML page for use with the STS mod. The STS mod has a comprehensive user guide to help you along. You will have to be more specific about the Admin panel, what don't you understand ? Fire Fly
Hi Chris Thank you. I have been looking over a downloaded file STS and hopefully I'll be able to do what I wish. :sweating: As far as administration, and right now I'm not too worried about it. Because I'm not ready to go online yet. Have to remake one of my other web sites and remove my free content in order to place it in to, my os commerce site. Partially for testing purposes. So now is try to make a front page for os commerce. Thanks again. fred
Fire Fly
I'm back, surprise surprise :P Me, the dummy. I want to make sure I'm doing this right, I noticed in the guidelines a suggestion, to backing up, database and OSC. I want to do this correctly. Of course this is a store, and I wish to keep my customers happy. So if you asked me this is very critical. The next question is how to restore the database as well as OSC. Thank you once again for your help  fred P.s. Just wanting to make sure that I am doing it correctly, do appreciate :-"
Guest
Fred, I find the best way to have a complete back up is to FTP download ALL the files to your local computer and then use myphpadmin to EXPORT database to your local computer. So, to RESTORE it you would just reverse the process........sort of :-" It gets more detailed than that, but as long as you have a full back up, we can talk you through the restore if needed. Fire Fly
Hi Chris Thank you, you are so fast in responding. When I had phpBB on my server and ask questions at the forum, most the time people just ignored you or had smart replies. This is very refreshing to find a place that is so helpful. Thank you. Backing up the web site is very easy, partially because my server is setting next to me. So I can easily copy the entire web site easily. To a storage device. However phpMyAdmin. Is an area I have no idea exactly what I'm doing their. Could you help with that area. I have looked at it however I'm not exactly sure what I'm doing in the export area. And this is my guess the most critical. Thank you again. Fire Fly
I was able to find a tutorial on the Web that shows how to properly back up phpMyAdmin. Now I am needless to say, completely, unequivocally lost. And don't know what to do from here. I did download two files to my computer, STSv4.5.8 and STSv4.5.9. Unpacked both, however it look like to me that STSv4.5.8, had the right package for what I installed on my computer, or server V2.2 RC2. So I copied and pasted the files into my store. Using my browser to open my store page, I received these errors. However I am able to get into the administration area, and I am able to see STS modules, where it should be. In STS modules, this statement is in their, Modules Directort: C:/Programs files/abyss web server/web site/o-shop/catalog/includes/modules/sts. Nothing more than just this line. Now in the store page I received these errors. Warning: require(includes/classes/sts.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\htdocs\web site\o-shop\catalog\includes\application_top.php on line 501 Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'includes/classes/sts.php' (include_path='.;C:\php5\pear') in C:\Program Files\Abyss Web Server\htdocs\web site\o-shop\catalog\includes\application_top.php on line 501 Opened the program, application_top.php on line,501. Line 501. // START STS 4.5.8 Line 502. require (DIR_WS_CLASSES.'sts.php'); Line 503. $sts= new sts(); Line 504. $sts->start_capture(); Line 505. // END STS 4.5.8 Trying to follow the information that came with the installation as well as what's in the STS file, which has me confused partially due to having two different, STS folders. :'( fred  Help
Guest
Fred, Ok..........do it the other way. Forget Myphpadmin, if you are running your own server you may not have it configured with myphpadmin. Use the admin, tools, database backup This will store a SQL backup into the Admin>Backup directory..........you can COPY that backup onto a portable storage device.
