Subcategories not displaying

Hey - I'm plugging away at learning this application. One issue I am having is that when I click on a parent category in the category list box on the left, its subcategories are not displaying on the main page as it does in the default install. All that displays in the main page is "There are no products to list in this category." Obviously I have no products defined in the parent category, only two subcategories. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

 

As well, if you're interested in another question, is there anyway to display multiple categories AND their products simulataneously? For example, if the parent categories is Training, and there are two subcategories (core and specialized), is there an add-on or organic method of clicking on "Training" and seeing the Core subcat and its products, AND "Speclialized" and its products on the main page at the same time?

Interestingly, on categories that I did not ever define a product for, the display of the subcats works. But I did originally have a couple of products in the parent cat I'm having problems with, and that seems to be the difference. I'll just kill that cat and start over. But any other experiences with this would be helpful, since once this goes live that might present an issue, where I can't simply delete and recreate. thx.

It sounds like you are using a template where the designer changed the code to NOT display the sub categories. If this is a template problem, you will more than likely need to contact the template creator for support.
