Hello,

Firstly I hope everyone had a great time with family and friends this holiday! :D

Getting back to my desk I have been meaning to implement some category changes on my website and 301 redirects for old pages are a must!

I set them up in .htaccess but they simply dont work because of the existing Ultimate SEO rewrite rules (e.g. -p-101 or -c-99.html + any other text brings up the same page. How do I set up a 301 redirect for deleted categories? or changes to category names. (as I understand google will treat the duplicate content negativity).

Many thanks for any suggestions in advance,

G

If you are on PHP 5.2.X you could change to Ultimate SEO Urls 5, this will create correct 301 redirects if you change the name of a product or category or manufacturer. It will also show a propper 404 page for inexistant products.

If it is a straight deletion you will need to code this in. I wrote a script here somewhere to do this using PHP here.

It was untested though so give it a test.
