How to add Canada back to database?

Long ago I deleted all countries expect US from the database since that was my target area.

But now I'm getting customer request to ship to Canada.

I use USPS (module) for shipping.

Is there anything else I have to concern myself with other than adding Canada back to the database countries table?

How would I add Canada back?

countries_ID: ?

countries_name: Canada

countries_iso_code_2: CA (?)

countries_iso_code_3: CAN (?)

address_format_ID: ?

No field Function settings?

I'll need zones too...

Jim,

A couple little tips about shipping into Canada although I do not know what your product is:

1) If you ship UPS into Canada, the Canadian Customer is asked to pay UPS for customs clearance on the Canadian Value of the product. Here is the tricky part: IF THE CANADIAN CUSTOMER REFUSES TO PAY THESE CHARGES THEY ARE BILLED BACK TO THE SHIPPER !!

2) The shipper is required to provide Customs Documents, including a Commercial Invoice and Certificate of Origin.

3) If the Canadian Customer refuses the item for any reason, the shipper will be required to pay for customs clearance back to the country of origin AND the ship to and from charges.

Just a couple of things to keep in mind, I have had several issues with shipping to the USA in the past using UPS. I have found Canada Post and USPS more cost efficient.

I will second that. We ship into Canada from the US. UPS is extremly expensive as Chris pointed out. We use Endicia software to ship via US mail and since there is no delivery confirmation number for international orders, we use Endicia insurance on all packages to Canada.

Thanks Chris and Tim for that info. thumbsup.gif

I only ship using USPS as UPS, FedEx, etc... cost to much from my location (they add a rural pickup charge).

Before I decide to offer shipping to Canada I'm going to look into my safety options. wink.gif

I sell hobby supplies and my profit margin is to small to take chances.

UPS has really increased their pick up rates. Used to be $3, now it is $5 plus fuel, rural, and something else I cannot remember. I was going to schedule a pick up with a shipment today and it was over $10. And they go down my road every day!

I can drive to the local hub for 1 1/2 gallons of gas.

I have filed a few claims on non delivered mail packages, and Endicia has paid every time no questions asked. Not sure how the post office insurance works.

I have a FedEx driver that lives a few houses down the road and a UPS driver a little farther. They both drive by my house 4 times a day but I have to pay expensive pickup charges instead of reaching out and handing the package to them. tongue.gif

USPS is much cheaper and knocks on my door asking for the package whenever I call them. Oh yeah, no extra fees!

I'll look into Endicia. wink.gif

Thanks
