Suggestion: Add Canceled and or Returned as order status type

I am sure we can add it ourselves but you would think that something this basic would have it included as we get orders which no payment came through.

Not everybody will need this, you can set it in your shop admin under Localisation >> Order Status.

Not everyone but many... or do you think all those who run oscommerce sites never have a return, canceled order or a delay in delivering products.

 

If so.. what version are they running? I would like to know so I too would never have a client return anything, cancel an order or have a delay in the delivering of products...

Anyone who exclusively sells downloadable products will probably never have a delay, cancellation or return. It is not an omission in osc that these options for order status are not provided by default, it is a trivial matter to add them if you want them.

 

osc just provides the bare bones for an ecommerce store, there are many things that a user needs to configure after the basic installation is done and adding extra order statuses if required is probably among the least of them. And if you do want to add statuses for delays, cancellations and returns you might also want to look at addons that allow you to handle individual statuses for individual items within an order. Personally I don't think these particular statuses are so easily implemented as to just apply them to a whole order where there is more than one item in an order.
