Remove a category from the category box

Hello

 

I am looking to do the following, remove a category from the category box but still have the category and products within that category accessible. I am basically placing the link to the category in another area on the page and need it removed from the category box.

 

Any ideas on how I could do this?

I have seen contribs to remove/hide categories but I'm not sure they are still accessible once removed/hidden.
