lehmbooks
How do I add the item codes for each product in the admin pages? Right now when we go into our admin site, under catalog/products, we only see descriptions, I would like to have the product item code for ease of lookup. Guest
Lori, If you do not currently use the MODEL section of the product information form, you could modify it so it says Item Code instead. If you do, you can install a contribution like this one: http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/2202 which allows you to add new product fields. lehmbooks
Chris, Thank you for your response, I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner. I do have a question back to you, how do I know if I am running the MODEL section? How do I go about changing it? I am just jumping into this site and learning as I go. If I need to install the link that you provided me with, how do I install it? Thanks for your time, Lori
Guest
Hi Lori, If you enter a model number for the products during the product creation process, then you ARE using the model number reference. If you do not have a model number for your products, you can edit the Language file to say ITEM CODE, then during the product creation process you would enter the item code. If you do you use the Model number. You would download and install the contribution I suggested which would allow you to add a field for the item code in the product creation page. (Having both a model number AND item code available) To install that, follow the instructions provided with the contribution. Always remember one thing when making changes...........................BACK UP BACK UP BACK UP..just in case you make a mistake. Chris
lehmbooks
Chris, I am using online merchant v2.2 RC2 and it does ask for Product Model. I do not also need the item code. I only need one number. However, the thing I am trying to figure out here is how to have the item code/product model display in the admin. catalog part under each category. Right now I have just the description (alphabetical) and status. I would like to have the item code/product model displayed first, then the description and so on. We have over 3000 items on our site and it is hard to find everything just by its description, I would rather have it numerical. Do you know how to do that? lehmbooks
So, how do I insert this download into my site?
Guest
Lori, If you open the downloaded file and read the install or readme text it gives detailed information about how to edit the files to install the contribution. If you don't think you are capable of changing the code, then seek the assistance of someone who is. Some of the contributions are easy to install, some are not, I would rate this one a 2 out of 5.
