maz00
Hi all, I'm currently evaluating different commerce packages and so far I think oscommerce is #1. However, my only concern is whether is allows you to add items and to customize those items even furthur using our own custom code. For instance we want to be able to display a product, once chosen we want to enable the user to customize the product even further and to add to cart only when they are done. Think of it in terms of car dealership site. You select a car, you can then choose the features (color, engine...etc.) and then you click add. Our company currently uses Squirrelcart which can be configured to do this but is not free. Is this kind of customization possible with OS Commerce? If so can you please tell me the steps required to accomplish this? I just want to better understand the usage before committing to it. Thank you M. rustyclockwork
Sure thing, osCommerce has a "product attributes" section in the admin, it's very customizable in it's stock form. There are contributions out there which allow pictures to be added as well per attribute or "option." Jason
maz00
Not sure if it would be an attribute. Essentially I want them to select a product, upload bunch of images, text...etc. and submit the order. I guess the part where they upload bunch of images and text to go with their item needs to be custom code. Is that possible? Our company then takes the product they chose, add the images, text...etc and generate the final output and send it to the user. Thanks M. Ben Nevis
Well, product options or attributes is what you are asking for. osc 2.2 calls them attributes. It sounds like you want the customer to provide their own information (images and text) to be added to the product, rather than offering options they can select from. Anyway, this addon will let the customer select from image options you provide. And this addon will provide a customer upload option, among other enhancements for option handling. Just search the addon section http://addons.oscommerce.com/ for various contributions for enhanced option handling if these don't suit. They all have descriptive text about what they do. www.jyoshna.com. Currently using OsC with STS, Super Download Store, Categories Descriptons, Manufacturers Description, Individual Item Status, Infopages unlimited, Product Sort, Osplayer with flashmp3player, Product Tabs 2.1 with WebFx Tabpane and other bits and pieces including some I made myself. Many thanks to all whose contributions I have used!
rustyclockwork
Ben, thanks for the info, I had no idea there was a contrib which allowed customers to upload a photo, this may help out my site as well. Thanks, Jason
