pauliepants Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Hi, I installed a mod on my shop about a week ago and it didnt work and since then ive just basically been butchering my shop trying to fix it. I've had to do this because my shop backup function doesn't work for some reason. When I click restore it takes me to the log in screen. When I log in it then takes me to the screen where all the backups are listed, but nothing has happened and if i click restore it does the same again. Could someone tell me what is wrong and how I could fix this please?

How heavily modified is your osc before trying this mod? Getting better with mods but no programmer am I.

My OSC is from the website, and I had 2 mods installed - a gift voucher one and a featured product one. Thanks for the quick reply.

You must have downloaded the mod and in that there will be details of what the mod is. i am guessing if you have only two or three including the one that doesnt work. with no file backups and just database backups (admin backup function). Its probably easier to start from scratch, you have many products inistalled on it? You need to at least make backups of the files your are altering if this is difficult, then a complete download of your shops files can take time but you may find it easier. pauliepants Posted December 6, 2009 Author Posted December 6, 2009 I don't mind starting from scratch. Was thinking that may be the only way. Are there are any specific files I could save that contain my products and attributes and then overwrite with ona clean install?
Xpajun Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 The back-up/restore feature in the admin only backs up and restore your database not the .php files to back up the .php file you have to copy them to your computer - most of us work on a copy of our files on our computer to modify them and then upload them via ftp to our store site - in this way we have a working backup on our computer in case anything goes wrong My store is currently running Phoenix 1.0.3.0 I'm currently working on 1.0.7.2 and hope to get it live before 1.0.8.0 arrives (maybe 🙄 ) I used to have a list of add-ons here but I've found that with the ones that supporters of Phoenix get any other add-ons are not really neccessary
Xpajun Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 If you replace all the files you have modified - I'm guessing these are only the front end not the admin side - so just replace the front end files except for the configure.php file do not replace this one - if you replace the admin as well do not replace the configure.php file there either (both are in their respective includes directory My store is currently running Phoenix 1.0.3.0 I'm currently working on 1.0.7.2 and hope to get it live before 1.0.8.0 arrives (maybe 🙄 ) I used to have a list of add-ons here but I've found that with the ones that supporters of Phoenix get any other add-ons are not really neccessary
johnnybebad Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Hi Paul, the products and attributes should be in your database file that you backed up using admin function backup. fortunatley that side is in the database you have backed up. okay step wise. 1. download your database file/files to your computer, they should have a time stamp included in the file name so we can differentiate bewteen each one. was the backup done before or after the the mods you installed.(this is important to know as it will decide on how you continue). for example, if you did the backup after each mod was installed then it should be possible to restore the database back to how it should have been before the last mod that broke things. 2. run the restore function in the database if your products are still available with the attributes intacted, after you recieve an admin notifcation saying that the restore was successful you know you have the product data in the database file. 3. what instructions were you following for the mod you were installing? johnnybebad Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 I am not sure that the files are available, I am guessing but they may have installed this using fantastico or something. so unless they have already downloaded the files, there wont be any, however if they have the database files populated with lost of products we can at least save them. It really all depends on how it was installed and what is available to salvage. its possible that the mods had the database updated, its hard if you dont know whats available to salvage and how the site was instlled to start with.
