Guest Posted February 21, 2003 Posted February 21, 2003 Hi, I've uploaded OSC to my site. I was feeling pretty good until I got the following error message: Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /www/u/username/htdocs/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file. I've tried to set the correct permission for this file. But, nothing seems to work. My FTP program, Fetch, says the file is 711. I try to set it for 755, as suggested by OSC, and I still get the same message. To make things even more screwy. The help desk at Powweb says that their FTP client says the file is set to 600. They set it to 755 at their end and the above error message still appears. After refreshing their view of the directory, the file reads as 600 AGAIN. ARrrrgh! Anybody got a suggestion? Is this something with the installation, OSC, PHP, the phase of the moon? Thanks, matney
Guest Posted February 21, 2003 Posted February 21, 2003 After installation both catalog and admin / configure, php should be set to 644 HTH
toolcrazy Posted February 21, 2003 Posted February 21, 2003 I always set mine to 444. You don't need more than read. The only drawback to this is if you need to edit the file you have to change it so you can write to it. IE> 644 Steve -------------------------
Guest Posted February 21, 2003 Posted February 21, 2003 Hi. I still get the same warning/error from osCommerce, that my permissions are not set correctly. This, even after trying many different permissions...755,600,644. Also, quite a few of the gifs that are part of the installation were corrupted. Could it be that I should just reinstall? Could the same thing that corrupted the gifs have corrupted the other files? Thanks, matney
bauernakke Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 I use powweb.com as well. Maybe it is an compatability issue on their end? Any one how to manually override that message?
toolcrazy Posted February 27, 2003 Posted February 27, 2003 Also, quite a few of the gifs that are part of the installation were corrupted. Could it be that I should just reinstall? Could the same thing that corrupted the gifs have corrupted the other files? It may of been the upload. If everything was uploaded in binary or all in ACCII, it will corupt some files. Re-upload in auto and try it again. Also, I have found that some FTP programs can't handle chmod very well. Try WS_FTP LE. I've have no problems, as I have had with many others.
