Help with basic 'How To get started' hint

Please excuse the rather rudimentary question, but it is an important one to many, like me, who just downloaded this extension.

 

I'm asking this because it doesn't seem to me to be clear in the instructions:

 

How do I get the sts_template.html to show the content rather than the place holders (eg $content, $catmenu)?

 

1) Do I first convert it to a php file and then put it inside the main catalog directory?

 

2) Is there something that needs to be commented out as well?

 

Someone please give me a hint as a jump start.
