Can you stop certain products from being added to the cart?

Hey guys,

 

Quick question - just wondering if I can put a block on some products so they can't be added to the cart? As on my website there's about 600 items that can only be purchased over the phone for legal reasons, all the rest of my products can be purchased on the website no problem. It's just one category I need to block from being purchased on my website.

Are you also using your site as a catalog for phone orders? If not, why do you even have the item in the site? Put text in the item descriptions "Order by Phone only. Call to check stock." and mark them as 0 quantity? That ought to keep them out of the cart. Of course, it will say "out of stock" -- maybe you can find the text for that and change it to "out of stock, or phone order only".

I have 24 categories of designer glasses, 1 category the brand do not allow it to be sold online, it can only be purchased in shop or over the phone. But obviously I still want to keep the brand on the website so customers can see which frame they like then ring up to order it.

 

That's what I thought originally just to place them out of stock & add in on each item that they have to be ordered over the telephone. Just didn't want the customer still carrying on through checkout to see if they where in stock for it then to be displayed 'out of stock' and for them not to phone at all. But guessing this is the only way round it really!

If you take Phil's suggestion, you can edit the 'out of stock' message from the admin tool, but you'll also want to edit OUT_OF_STOCK_CANT_CHECKOUT in catalog\includes\languages\english\shopping_cart.php

 

And in the admin tool remember to set it so users can't checkout if the item is out of stock ;)

Hi,

 

I'm sure I have seen mention of a contribution that allows a "Call for Price" to be inserted instead of the price.

 

Might be worth a search of the add-ons.

I haven't tried it but Call For Price might be what you are looking for.
