tdennard Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 This is what has been done so far... installation was done by levelten....database was created (with help).... have had to use a "dummy" homepage for site (www.merlesframes.com) until site is up and running....went to osCommerce admin site, changed some of the configurations to suite my type of company(followed the steps in the oscommerce documentation pages) and added a few products to get the feel of what I'm doing...don't know how to "look" at site to see what I've done so far...do all these files need to be downloaded on my personal computer in order to work with them??? Where do I go from here? I bought this template to use and thought I would be able to "master" this eventually because the website stated.... "complete on-line store solution that contains a catalog front end and an administrative tool backend that can be easily installed and configured--even by non-technical store owners with little or no web experience"... I have created several websites, so I don't think I'm a complete "newbie"...but this has thrown me for a loop... so if anyone can give me some "steps" to get going in the right diretion, I would certainly appreciate it!!
Guest Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Teresa, If you have a 'standard' install, you can check your online store by going to www.yourdomain.com/catalog/ (yourdomain being the name of your website URL) You will then see the changes you are making. Configure your taxesa and your shipping then continue to add your products in the categories you have created. That should give you the basics of an e commerce site. You will also want to select payment methods in the admin as well. Chris

Guest Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Hi Teresa, Well, you're admin is definitely on that URL but the catalog is under an unknown directory. If you use your FTP client, you will see the folder listing and know where the catalog is located. Another thought, if your domain name is pointed to www.merlesframes.com and your catalog is located under a different directory as I mentioned above, you may want to direct your domain to the actual directory of the store. Temporary you need to type in manually mydomain.com/index.php in order to see your store Later on, afer you remove the index.html cover, your store will appear when typing just mydomain.com My community profile | Template system for osCommerce - New: Responsive | Feedback channel
