undersun
Hello, I am new to oscommerce, and I upload the beta version, but I can't seem to get it work. When I try to go to my browser in start the installation process, I get the error message "Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /home/undersun/public_html/mydomain/oscommerce/admin/includes/classes/language.php on line 20" Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I uploaded all files in ASCII. What permissions do I need to add? Help! Reed
Guest
Reed, Since you are new to OSC, I will assume you are not a developer or programmer of OSC. Therefore, you should not have downloaded the ALPHA version of 3.0 as it is NOT ready for production use. V3.0 Alpha was posted for download so that developers could work on the code. I would suggest downloading V2.2 RC2a if you are looking for a WORKING version of OSC. Chris
undersun
Ok, thanks Chris. I will try that first, and then upgrade later. (I just came to the same conclusion!) Thanks!

Chris ok, I got the oscommerce-2.2rc2a running, but when I get an error in red at the top that says "Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: /home/undersun/public_html/mydomainname/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file." I changed the permissions on that file to 644, but when I refresh, the warning has not gone away. What should I do?
Ben Nevis
Change it to 444, other lower settings might work too. www.jyoshna.com. Currently using OsC with STS, Super Download Store, Categories Descriptons, Manufacturers Description, Individual Item Status, Infopages unlimited, Product Sort, Osplayer with flashmp3player, Product Tabs 2.1 with WebFx Tabpane and other bits and pieces including some I made myself. Many thanks to all whose contributions I have used!

Ben Nevis
I tried that, but the error still shows up. Any ideas as to why? Did you change the right configure file? There are two, one in /catalog/includes and one in /catalog/admin/includes? Could the page be being served from a cache? Turn off the cache in osC, clear your browser cache. www.jyoshna.com. Just right clicking on the file in ftp and trying to changing the permissions that way didn't work.
