Changing Product Attributes

Recommended Posts

I have a question about the catalog.

It seems we have added products, including more sizes, and they show up on the main listing of products, but not on the landing page for that item.

I tried to go into Attribute Manager, Product Options, Option Values, and Product Attributes, but that doesn't seem to be helping. I added the size, but it still doesn't show on the site.

Appreciate any tips...

Now you have to associate the attribute to the product, this is done on the same page as you set up the sizes.

Sounds good, is there a tutorial on step by step exactly how to do this. I tried it, and still do not see things associating with one another.

I'd love a tutorial as well. Might seem obvious once you're used to it, but it's really not that easy to a total beginner.

Once you have created all the entries that you need in the "Product Options" and the "Option Values" sections. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and in the "Products Attributes" select your product name, select the corresponding option name and option respectively. Select a value price and prefix if need be and then click on insert. It is really that simple. Or you could just install the Ajax Attributes Manager contribution, makes your life a whole lot easier.

I should have said I would love a tutorial on using Easy Populate spreadsheet. E.g. do I create an extra column for each attribute? Or an extra row? If row, does that mean a different model number for each attribute?

It's not really clear from the sample file, as each row has the same attributes in every row (4MB, 8MB, etc). Maybe a sample file that includes colour/sizes would be helpful, as it would be easier to see how the information is displayed.

To be honest trying to change all your attributes if you have more than say 20 individual ones can be a right pain.

If you have lots of attributes it can be very easy to either get a column heading wrong or an attribute value wrong then when you upload anything it can have major changes on your store.

Example if you get your attribute code wrong (attribute id number) say attribute 45=Blue and you change it to 45=Medium EVERYTHING in your database that had the attribute blue will now be changed to Medium.

You may find that you have no problems keeping everything in control and ordered so as not to make a mistake however I found that if you have lots and lots of attributes (we have over 1,000) then Easy populate for editing attributes for me anyway is a no no.

Hope the advice helps.
