westmidsguy Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 does this just backup the database not the front end?
multimixer Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 it says "database backup", right? So it backup the database, not the files. If you want to backup all files, then you do this via your host cpanel or using a contribution, something like "store backup" I don't remember well. The safest and best is to have a complete backup of your store on your local computer. You alter the local files and ftp them to the server. If they dont work, you just take the backup file that you duplicated on your computer My community profile | Template system for osCommerce - New: Responsive | Feedback channel
spooks Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 There's Backup of all store files in zip format http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/6986 that backs up all site files you would be best replacing the default backup tool too, its bugged, use AutoBackup Database in Admin http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/2314 AND Database backup manager http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/5769 Sam Remember, What you think I ment may not be what I thought I ment when I said it. DnL Crafts Posted January 6, 2010 Posted January 6, 2010 Hello Sam, Thanks for the all your hard work and information. I appreciate all the wonderful information and volunteer workers here in these forums. MY Story: I have all my folder chmod set to 755. The backup that came with program, images and a few other folders cannot be written to from the admin area (yes I have renamed and passworded admin, IP Trap works Super) This is the message I get across the top of the page - Error: Catalog images directory is not writeable: /home/sitename/public_html/images/ and Error: Backup directory is not writeable I contacted my ISP and sent a line from another post that said it was something they had to take care of - Well they fixed it so I could upload pictures from admin I was happy until I checked cPanel and they had set the permissions back to 777. That was their cure, as of yet I have not found one. I was hacked about mid Dec like all the others and I think I have that bit taken care of with the cures and fixes from else where in the forums. Only problem left to resolve (I think) is uploading pictures in admin. My Questions: #1. If I install these mods/add-ons from above for backup will they work from admin without having to set the chmod permission to 777? #2. Is there somewhere in osc that I can recode to make it work off 755 folders, maybe an add-on? I was instructed to make .htaccess files or .php reroute, for the folders I need and then put them to 777, but I would like to be able to leave them as 755 if possible. I have a .php reroute in images now. Thanks much for your help. Lou Lou BrownFlorida Panhandle USA
spooks Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 From your little story I would suspect this is a server issue, I would also suspect your host don't know server config that well, have they secured it properly ? As advised eleswhere, anytime a host requires or sets permissions to 777 etc, time to find a better host!! Sam Remember, What you think I ment may not be what I thought I ment when I said it. DnL Crafts Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I was afraid you were going to say that. I will try to contact the server people tomorrow and see if I can convince them to change their way of operations. Thanks for all your help. Keep up the good work, I really appreciate all that I have learned from you guys on these forums. Lou Lou BrownFlorida Panhandle USA
