No matter what I set the catalog/admin/includes/configure.php with chmod, I still get that "Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file:, etc. at the top of my log in page. How do I get rid of it? (I've already said that I tried 644 and 444, and 400, and even 000).

Try setting the permissions on /includes/configure.php not /admin/includes/configure.php

hi

How about the catalog/includes/configure.php?

Nic

I set it on 444, and then on 400, and it still didn't work with either.

I found it. Remove "define('WARN_SESSION_DIRECTORY_NOT_WRITEABLE', 'true')" from the bottom of includes/application_top.php.

(I know I have set the chmod right, even if the computer doesn't.)

If you were using an FTP program to change permissions that might explain it.

Most peole have to use cPanel, not FTP, to effect (successful) permission changes on the config file.

If I suggest you edit any file(s) make a backup first - I'm not perfect and neither are you.

And so did I. When I went back to look at it in my FTP program after turning off the computer and coming back later, none of the changes I had made had held.

(And yes, I've still got the original zip folder and an unchanged copy of the original files on my own box, marked read-only.)
