Weight, shipping, and method

I keep looking for the following information on:

 

1. shipping weight and how to set it to use pounds (lbs),
   
2. how to hook up UPS as a method (do I have to download something and install it somewhere?),
   
3. and why the heck do I keep getting 4x the weight of my product in the zone rates?! Which is a whole other thing I don't seem to be getting which brings me right back to #1.
   

I just want to assign a weight to my item in Lbs (i.e.: 1.125 lbs) when I add it as a product and then at check out have it calculate the shipping by the weight to anywhere in the world (preferably through UPS). It's not much to ask, why is it so hard to find an answer that doesn't require I be a veteran programmer?

Okay, a friend explained "Package Tare Weight" to me and I was able to finally set the weight of my product accurately. So #1 & 3 are resolved.

So What about UPS?
