UN-INSTALL OS Commerce v2.x

Hello,

Okay, so it didn't go so well. You can see my post here:

The Problem

As we only have about 65 items in the inventory, we are thinking of Un-Installing v2.x, and then installing:

osCommerce Online Merchant v3.0 Alpha 5

I / We don't know how to PROPERLY Un-Install the store off our server. Obviously, we could just delete the folder, but is that the PROPER method?

I / We are trying to keep an open mind about osCommerce.

Is this the best choice??

I / We thank everyone in advance.

Not a very good idea at the moment, especially if you are having problems with RC2a - V3 is still in it's alpha state - basically still being tested.

Keep plugging at the 2a and you'll soon get to grips with it ;)

My store is currently running Phoenix 1.0.3.0

I'm currently working on 1.0.7.2 and hope to get it live before 1.0.8.0 arrives (maybe 🙄 )

I used to have a list of add-ons here but I've found that with the ones that supporters of Phoenix get any other add-ons are not really neccessary

Okay thanks for the advice.

How about UN-Installing and then re-installing?

Hope someone sees this. :-"

delete the folder from your public_html

then start again...

If its just the index page that you are having trouble with, why dont you just over write the damaged file with a clean install version, and then upload it to your site again. What you have learnt is that you need to create a backup of all the oscommerce files on your computer. If something happens then you can just upload your precvious version.

Oscommerce has a steep learning curve but there are lots of help on these forums, and you will generally get an answer as long as you have tried to find that answer first.

Keep going, it does get easier.

REMEMBER BACKUP, BACKUP AND BACKUP

Spid3r19,

Cool, wasn't sure about that, but now we know.

I obviously removed something from the "default text area" of the Front Page. I did see numerous tables (<td> and </td>) yet didn't think that they were necessary.

I thought of another solution. ;)

If I just go to anyone's store and like the width and such, on their Front Page,

I can simply view source and then copy it

Then, REPLACE ALL THEIR TEXT (content) with my own (by doing this I am ensuring that THERE IS NOT A COPYRIGHT CONCERN and my store will have the necessary code to function. :P;)

CHEERS!!!

14Steve14,

Indeed, I knew this. The ironic thing is I have been a webmaster of a forum and 5 websites with a total of 248 pages for 3 years (and yes they are all backed up) :-" I even rename my index.php to indexNov112009.php so that I have a back-up. Sheesh.

Take Care,

Dear Forum Administrators or Moderators,

It is unfortunate that this software only allows one edit for the original poster.

Because of that I cannot add

"- this problem has been solved"

to the original Topic subject line.

Additionally, with a forum that contends with problems, a nice feature would be a method to select Topic Solved from a drop down menu that either the original poster or a moderator could use to place a check mark beside the topic subject on the board itself.

Could you add the quoted text to the subject line so that your members know that this is solved.

Thank you.

You might want to consider that in pages coded in php just viewing (and copying) someone's source code from a browser isn't going to be exhaustive. PHP doesn't work like HTML, in HTML what you see in the browser is actually what the author coded, but in PHP, when your browser downloads a page the server first interprets the code, turns it into HTML then serves it to you, so what you see is the output of the code, not the code itself the way the author wrote it.

Oh, I did not know that. :'( And after looking at some Live Stores, I really didn't see "how" to do it. SO, I have gone ahead and downloaded the v2.x and will install in a TEMP directory and then just grab the index.php (yeah I know it has to be the one that is in the languages/english folder) and then delete the TEMP directory

THEN IMMEDIATELY DO A BACK-UP, before proceeding.

Thank you to everyone that helped.

May you all profit from your stores

Your Sanctuary Gift Shop is only marking up each item one U.S. dollar ($1.00) in hopes to support A Sanctuary.

A Sanctuary is a web site that is here to help those that have been abused or assaulted.

What makes A Sanctuary different is that we don't ban users for making a mistake.

We are an anonymous site to ensure protection for our members.

One of the members of Your Sanctuary Staff has been supporting the site for three years now and can no longer afford the maintenance fees.

We broke the first install of OS Commerce after we input the inventory and images.

Because we had to delete the "store" and start again, we need to make all the changes before we input the inventory and images again. :'(

We are willing to create a username and password for someone that will help.

1. We want the default inventory removed.

2. The Manufactures box can be removed.

3. New Products can be removed.

4. Not sure if we need reviews.

5. We need to modify the text in the middle of the page.

6. We have a logo that we would like on the top of the Front Page.

7. As far as we know no additional add-ons are needed.

Obviously we don't have the funds to pay for this service, however, are we really asking that much?

We thank you in advance and are waiting to hear from you (think we have this set up so we get an email when someone replies, but we will check each day anyway).

Be Well,

GreyWolf

PS We would like to permanently place the name of the person that helps us with this at the top of the page or pages if they know how to do that. :D
