Setting up Localization / Taxes

I have installed Ver 2.2RC2 of osCommerce, and it is functioning well. However, I have not been able to set up multiple tax zones. Actually, I only need one tax zone to get my site on line, for the state I am in, but a little more detailed information would be appreciated. If the information appears in this forum already, I apologize. I have spent a few hours searching here with no results, or with links that don't go anywhere.

I have read the information in the knowledge base, and still don't have a clue as to how to do this. It doesn't completely describe ow to set up different taxes within a given coutry or zone - only how to get the who country to be the same. I already have that, and it isn't what I need.

The Locations/Taxes area is populated already with a variety of countries and zones. I have added a Tax Zone for Texas, the state where I have my business, and I just want to charge taxes to someone that resides in Texas, not anywhere else. [Actually there are different tax rates within Texas, and I need help with that too, but for now just one tax rate would make me smile.] I have a "Tax Class" of "Taxable Goods" and then a "Tax Rate" for Texas of 8.25%.

Everything looks great, except when I try to place a dummy order from a different state, it still charges the same tax. I want the tax in other states to be zero. In fact, when I choose a different country for my shipping and billing location, it still charged Texas sale taxes. I should be zero.

I'm missing a piece of the puzzle, and have tried many different modification guesses, without success. Please advise.

Thanks in advance...

Setting Single State Tax (in this case Texas... applicable to CA state also.) If the address(state)of a customer is from that specific state, tax will be applied.

Locations/Taxes

Regarding "Countries" and "Zones" - Those are meant to check if the countries and states/provinces(zones) are present.

For this purpose, there is no need to alter/add the "Countries" or "Zones". The U.S. is listed in the "Countries" table and all U.S. states are in the "Zones" table.

Begin here.

--------

Tax Zone >> Insert >> Under Zone Name type "Texas" >> Under Description type "TX State Tax" - click insert

You should see a folder called "Texas"--click it >>Insert>>Country dropdown select "U.S."

>> Zone dropdown select "All Zones" >>Insert

You'll see "United States" "All Zones"

>>Click Edit >> Zone dropdown select "Texas" >> Click Update

You should now see -- "United States" "Texas"

--------

Tax Classes >> New Tax Class >> Under Tax Class Title type "Taxable Proucts" >> Description - can be blank

--------

Tax Rate >> New Tax Rate >>Tax Class Title drop down -> Taxable Product >> Zone dropdown -> Texas

--------->>Tax Rate - 8.25% >> Description - Texas Sate Tax >> Priority 0 or 1

Depending on our jurisdiction/district, make proper adjustments to your tax rates.

Set all your products to be taxable under catalog/categories product section.

----------------

For different tax rates within Texas, Click the ADD-ONS tab on top of the forum page and type "new york tax" or "florida tax" in the search field. Apply and alter the ADDON you selected to your specific requirement.

These are all good suggestions.

I can confirm the tax line in admin >> modules >> order total it set to 2.

I've tried to set up tax for everything in the US and other states and it still does not work.

"Display Taxes with Tax" is already mentioned in my original post...I have made this true and false with no luck.

No zones are duplicated.

I think either some code was removed from the one page checkout or something to do with the register globals. My settings are correct just as I thought so I need dig deeper!
