vinnie@krystal Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Hi can anyone help or advice as to whether images can be protected in osc by using a watermark or similar method to prevent copying of images. Your help and advice would be very much appreciated...thank you
FIMBLE Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Hi Have you tried this http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/2431 it might be what you are after Nic Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post My Contributions
Guest Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 watermarking is definitely one to prevent copying of images.
FIMBLE Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 You can also add hotlinking protection, this will only help if others use the URL to you site though and will not stop them from being taken Nic Sometimes you're the dog and sometimes the lamp post My Contributions
MrPhil Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 If someone is determined to steal images from you, there's nothing that can be done to stop them. As suggested, a watermark as an integral part of the image can discourage this by "ruining" the image for any other use. It needs to be "baked into" the image and not a separate overlay at display, where it could be easily evaded. While you're preparing product images in Photoshop or GIMP would be a good time to take a standard transparent-background watermark image and merge it into each product image. A contribution to create a new image on-the-fly by merging an actual image and a watermark is possible, but remember that this could greatly increase your server load as it's done every time an image is displayed. Finally, you can, as suggested, use "hotlink protection" to stop other sites from stealing your bandwidth to display your images on their site, but it won't stop others from stealing a copy of your image files for use elsewhere.
vinnie@krystal Posted November 2, 2009 Author Posted November 2, 2009 Hi thank you for that i will look into hotlink protection...
♥Biancoblu Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 Have a look at this thread for hotlink protection. ~ Don't mistake my kindness for weakness ~
