CHECKOUT WITHOUT REGISTRATION

Recommended Posts

I am posting this again in hopes that some one can help.

I used the contribution on Oscommerce for check out without

registration:

http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...ions,355/page,7

Everything seemed right.

When someone clicks on "checkout" it present them with 3 options:

"Checkout", "create account" or "sign in"

However, this is the problem: When you click on "checkout", it presents you with the form to create an account, instead of taking you to checkout.

I have just visited the site that was quoted as an example of a working site that used the mod:coolercoolers.com .

But to my surprise, when I clicked on "express check out" on the site it took me to the registration form.

If it presents you with the registration form, what is the point of the mod.

Or am I missing something.

This is surpose to be for guests who may not want their info stored.

Is there anyone out there that have gotten this work properly on their

site. My site is: wholesalersnetwork.com/catalog

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Steve.

Precisely. There is no point to this mod.

What you should be doing is wrapping up the "create account" in different words. eg "create a profile". Then when they come back to buy more "Already created a profile, click here for our quick login page!!!"

Blah blah. It's all an illusion to your customers...[/i]

Profile, to me, sounds kind of bad, too. It sounds police like, and is often heard on tv in relation to racial 'profiling'. In a serious way, I'd much rather have an 'account', than a profile, if you know what I mean. Heh. :)

I've been playing around with your excellent straight to registration mod, and while playing with the wording have found that you don't necessarily need to say profile or account at all. You can just ask for 'billing details' if they're new, and otherwise, say 'if you're a returning customer, click here to log in'. Nothing concrete about what they're doing. They may call it an account in their head. They may think of it as 'registration'. Whatever. It's up to them. That part is vague. The specific part is that if they're a returning customer, checkout is faster, and if they're new, they have a few more details to give. That's all. No prelabeling is done for them.

What do you think of that, given your experience? Do you think it could work?

To me, it's sort of like how a slick department store salesperson won't make you feel sold to at all. When losing, for instance, they ofer you options, like Visa, mastercard or Amex. They don't say, 'so, uhhh... you wanna buy this stuff I'm selling you or what?" They avoid the issue entirely, and just get the customer involved in the actual checkout process. A good salesperson is brilliant, really.

And thanks again for that GREAT straight to account creation at checkout mod you made! Simple and beautiful. :)

Come to think of it, you're the kind of guy that may really like some of the reports at marketingexperiments.com. Lots of good free content. I joined the non-free area for a month, and can say that some of the paid is worth it, too (especially the report on improving the order process). It seems like it takes them a long time to generate new information due to the intensive nature of their tests, so I'm probably not going to renew at the moment. But first month, certainly worth it.

Yes, like it. Profile sounds better than "Account" as account means money (in the UK).

Do away with Profile and use something else (or nothing at all) - even better...

Anything that gets more sales is worth exploring...

I'll checkout marketingexperiments.com later - thanks for the link.

  • 4 months later...

Just wondering, I have the Check out without an Account,

Is there a way to merge login.php with Create_account.php?

basically at the Log in page, underneath the 3 boxes have the Create an Account info on that page? Just takes one step out of the whole log out process.

what do you think?
