joeterk Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Hi, I am new here and I think you have develop a very good tool. I am not an expert. I usually use dreamweaver software to design some basic web sites (htm). I would like to design a little site with products that could be sold. My question is if people like me ( not expert) could design a little web site using oscommerce , having on mind that I haven't used mysql. (I have never used anything with databases, I have designed web sites and upload web sites in htm/html format only) Thanks, Joe
♥Biancoblu Posted October 31, 2009 Posted October 31, 2009 Hi, my answer to your question is anybody can install and design an oscommerce shop providing they are willing to learn, search the forums, go through some trial and error, etc. If you have time and enjoy learning with patience, then you'll be ok, on the other hand if you want a fully functioning and great looking shop immediately, you're better off hiring someone to do the work. ~ Don't mistake my kindness for weakness ~

You don't need to be a programmer to set up an osCommerce store. Knowing some html and what ftp is, makes you to be more far than many of the people here, including me, when I started to fight with this. You will notice that things are different than html/dreamweaver. There is no "visual" designing. Everything is "hidden" in php files, and there again, there is a lets say "functional" part, that do all the job with the database etc and a html part, simple and plain using <table>, <tr>, <td>, just, instead of hardcoding everything into the site, it comes again from php commands. You will get used to this, preposition is you have the time and will to learn. There are many resources around, a knowledge base, pinned topics (how do I) at the top of the forum, a tip and trick section, where you should go through and all the people here helping each other, the most valuable thing in the whole story.
