List of installed files?

Hi,

My OSCommerce was installed at the top directory of my hosting site, and now I want to move it to a domain folder. Someone else did the installation for me, and now they are unavailable to work with. So, I have to figure this out myself, and first time at using OS Commerce.

How do I know which files are which?

There are a lot of files in the top directory.

Also, this particular installation was installed for "domain x", and I actually need the name to be "domain y". Is it possible to change that? Does it need to be changed somewhere? I can't find a place in the admin area to change it. It was setup for a dummy domain, and then was supposed to be switched over to the main site at somepoint. How do you do that?

Thank you!!!

If you search these forums about moving sites, you will find many, many posts by shop owners wanting to move to the root. There are a couple of valid reasons for that so you may want to reconsider moving yours out of the root.

But if you want to, you can download the complete set of files from the above menu and compare them to what is on your server. If you want to change the domain name, you will need to edit the admin/includes/configure.php and includes/configure.php files.

Hi Jack, really appreciate your response. Trouble with staying on the root, is that the root domain is the wrong domain. We need to change the root domain to be the right domain, and I don't know how to accomplish that either. It sounded like a major ordeal with Hostgator, to change the main domain name, and a reinstallation of other elements that I am not sure I want to mess with.

Why does it need to be in the root directory?

I have quite a few domains, and I just want the shopping cart to work for one specific domain.

The other domains are merely pointing to the main domain (which is currently not the name of the main directory, because we were experimenting before moving my site from a previous host). We used a dummy domain name to set up our "new shopping cart" and then we were supposed to switch it all over to the correct domain at some point, but I don't know how to do that, and there are other issues with that, as well, having to do with moving all the files from my main domain up to the root folder, which is another ordeal I do not understand.

Where is the "above menu"? I don't see it.

It sounds like all you need is to create an add-on domain and move your existing shop into a sub-directory. In that case, it will appear to be in the root and is not a problem. Your host can do that for you, at least the add-in domain part but many hosts won't.

The above menu is a black bar at the top of the screen. Click on the Website menu item.

I too want to see a list of the files, but the Wesite menu item takes me to the OSC website and i can't find it there. Can you give more direction? Where is it on the OSC website? Thank you.

I am still unable to find it. I am interested in hiring someone to explain the Hostgator directories and files to me. Is it possible to find someone here?

What's the difference between:

admin/includes/configure.php and includes/configure.php

Aren't they the same file?

I wasn't referring to your host but to this site.

No, they are totally different. They are the files that hold the configuration settings for your admin and for your shop. You can think of the admin and the shop as two separate sites, each with their own configure file. You can't interchange the files or your admin and/or shop won't work.
