Guest Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 Hey Folks, Can anyone recommend an alternative to master products/linked products? I'm building a store for a friend who is a toy collector. For example he may have ten 'Optimus Primes' but all in different conditions and separate prices. i don't want him doing them as attributes, because he won't delete them and the 'real' attributes will get lost in the shuffle. I've spent a day working on master/linked products, but just can't get them to work properly in RC2.2a, even on fresh installs... Thanks
swguy Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 I would rather see you just add them as separate products with quantity 1. That way when each one is sold, stock goes down appropriately. Guest Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 I think that's where I'm headed..just that it would be nice to be able to have them all listed together on one page so the customer doesn't have to browse 'back' to the main search or category page and go looking for the next. plus a lazy user might just come across one in the category and think that's all he has to offer and leave. Will check out the boilerplate mod..thanks
swguy Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 OK, if this is a concern then perhaps use the MODEL field to uniquely identify each toy, and do a search on the product info page for other products with the same model. Show their prices, perhaps condition, etc. in a list. Contributions: Better Together and Quantity Discounts for osCommerce 2.3.x and Phoenix. See my profile for more details.
Guest Posted October 24, 2009 Posted October 24, 2009 The owner is smart enough to do the basic OSC admin/search functions as you say, but a bit sloppy when it comes to presentation...I'm afraid of what his lists will look like  , and I want to use the site as a reference for myself too. Also he wouldn't be able to put 'a href' and link the list to the products..would make a mess of it.
Guest Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Aye Scott, Just wanted to get back and thank you for sharing some ideas. I actually found something called 'related products' which was really easy to install and seems to do what I want. Again I appreciate the time. See ya in the future... Chris
