X2 Industries Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I am experiencing alot of issues with google and my new oscommerce site. First off, within the first month of being launched the site was indexed nicely, I was within a page from the top of search depending on the keywords. And now I cant even get to the index by searching X2 Industries? I have made a few changes along the way like header tag controller was installed a member gallery, order editor and a few others. All contrib that were installed seem to work ok, the only other thing that changed was a setting for preventing spider sessions, I was not sure of the outcome but was told it was best to set this to true, but since then set it back to false (was true for about 3 weeks) I also had signed up for a google adwords account that was used for about 2 weeks then canceled, It seems that once this account was canceled I noticed the issues with my search keywords.? Is it possible to look at the site source and tell if everything should be indexed correctly? Could it be my site or a contrib, the site has SEO installed and was working great until now? Any help would be SUPER!
Jack_mcs Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 First, you shouldn't be using Header Tags Controller. It is far outdated, has problems in the code and is no longer supported. That should be updated to Header Tags SEO. Next, the prevent spiders should be true - always. As for the main problem, I don't understand what "indexed nicely" means. Are ou saying your pages were listed before and now they are not, that they are indexing at a lower position, or something else? Any help would be SUPER! Here is a tool you can use to check your server response code. http://www.urivalet.com/ It should be 200 for spiders to crawl and index your site correctly. Check the return codes with the Prevent Spider Sessions option set to true and false. If your server is returning the wrong code, the web crawl on your pages will break and your indexed pages will be dropped.

Pages should return a code of 200 but the prevent spider setting won't prevent that. All if does is prevent the session ID from being attached to the url. If the search engines get a url with a SID attached, it can cause a number of problems, some serious, but the pages will still index.
