What would YOU do??

I need OSC to cater to both my retail and wholesale customer base. I am planning to implement a wholesale option that will work like this:

A wholesale customer will sign in and their admin-assigned customer type switches the site from retail to wholesale mode. In wholesale mode, they see different prices, additional inventory options, use a different shipping mode (UPS vs. table rate) and will include Net terms and COD payment options. None of these wholesale options will be visible to a retail customer.

A lot of work, I know, but MY QUESTION IS:

Do I:

  • 1) Modify my current site to include all of those options as functions of a customer type?

OR

2) Build a completely separate wholesale site, require an account to see anything at all, and somehow share relevent inventory data?

I am leaning toward the first option, but would really like to hear some thoughts about how best to tackle the situation.

Thanks,

Greg

I believe there is a way to have multiple stores accessing a single MYSQL DB. Maybe that would be your solution. That way, you can redirect the appropriate User to the appropriate site, while using one User db for both.

Not sure if it will work, but it sounds good in theory.

Good Luck.

the pricing issues will be easy as there are contributions alarounf that do that

you problem will be in the shipping and payment mods

however look at "customer status" contribution as it might do what you need alreadt, if not it is a very good base for these mods
