Guest Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Hello, Thank you for your replies... After searching the OScommerce site I finally found STS contributions and found that it is some sort of template system. I downloaded it. It appears that the contribution is packed with a tremendous amount of files and snippets requiring hours of tedious; manual, copying, pasting, re-writing and installing. I haven't delved into the details of this tedious task, but I ask, what is the learning curve for this contribution? In other words, how long would it take to re-write a website? Regards, Sandaleer PS. I never blame OSC for anything, as I stated in my first post.
Guest Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 When reading the install instructions I find this heading: 2.3 Copy new files From the "STS" folder, copy the new files to your store: I am guessing that this means that I should use my ftp program and upload the folders and files from my computer to the server side of the host server where my store is located. But, of course I have guessed in the past as to what other people are writing and have been wrong most of the time. So, if anyone is clear on this instruction will you please verify that I am correct. Regards, Sandaleer
multimixer Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 The new files you must upload via ftp to your server to the corresponding locations The "files to compare" you need to compare with the files you have and do changes. Best is to use a comparison program, there exist many of them. I think that if your store is not modified at all you can just copy over the files, must be stated in the instructions My community profile | Template system for osCommerce - New: Responsive | Feedback channel
Guest Posted October 22, 2009 Posted October 22, 2009 Hello, Multi... Thank you for the time you took to help me out. I went ahead and uploaded the STS files and folders. Found a PDF users guide and I'm on my way. I'm working on the index.html.php file. I'm not sure if when I'm finished that I'm supposed to re-name it to index.php? So now, I have existing pages with products, I suppose that I am to discard them and go ahead and list products by log on to the Admin area, and listing the products in the standard manner in the Admin module? Or can I convert them to be usable? Best Regards, Sandaleer
multimixer Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Great that you succeed with installation. You will not revert index.php.html back to plain php as they are different files. Both will be in use. I suggest you to read the docs folder to gain a basic understanding about how sts work. Let also the examples of folder /full/ to play on your server to see the differences of each template type. There is also a concrete logic in the template type hierarchy, in general the specific comes first, if not existing the next general etc. The most general is the default template Also, thtats the link to the sts v4 forum (there is an other sts forum too, but for the older versions) As for the product listing: A this stage sts wont do much about. But I didn't understood your question well My community profile | Template system for osCommerce - New: Responsive | Feedback channel
