Hi

I know this is not related to oscomerce but I couldn't find a solution anywhere!!! I have been googling it for days but its all so confusing and nothing works!! I even tried changing it with the command prompt but when I use this command: C:\>ftp ftp-www.mysite.com I get an error "Unknown Host". I am a newbie and I have no idea where to do this. I guess it should be related to the server but when I contacted our so called 'dedicated server' people, they say "its up to you"......so I am so clueless and frustrated.....I will be really greatful if anybody could throw some light on this.......

Thankyou...

Normally you should have a back office module that you access through your webhost. (this is nothing to do with oscommerce)

On your webhost back office you should have various options such as myphpadmin, ftp account etc.

If you click on the ftp account or whatever yours is called you should have the option to change your password.

What your host should have said was that the controls are in the back office section of your server admin we are not allowed to change it but if you go there you should be able to change it yourself.

Did this help?

Hi Jim

Thanks a lot for your help. But when I login to my account on our host's website, it does not have any options except for creating a paid ticket and editing the profile information. Was that what you meant by webhost backoffice? Sorry if I am wrong!!

You'll have to ask your host what the proper incantation is for FTP access. I doubt that "ftp-www." is a correct prefix (subdomain) for access. Usually it will be something like ftp://mysite.com, ftp://ftp.mysite.com, ftp ftp.mysite.com, or something along those lines. You might find it easier to use an FTP client with a GUI (Filezilla, FTP Commander, and many more) rather than command line. You may also be able to use your browser to do FTP.

By the way, is your domain and/or site brand new? It takes time (generally 24 to 72 hours) for news of your domain and any changes to it to spread around the world (including your local ISP's domain name servers). Your ISP may simply have not received an update yet about your site.

Hello Mr Phil

Thanks for your reply.

We do use Filezilla but is there an option in Filezilla to change password? Our domain and site are not brand new.But I am brand new to the company and hence the trouble.... :)

Iam asked to just change the password so that the fired employees dont have a chance to mess up the site!! :sweating:

I doubt there's anything in Filezilla to change an FTP password (or any other password). Usually you have to go into the hosting system's "control panel", sign on with the current password, and change whichever passwords you need to. I would change the master account access password, any specific FTP passwords, your database passwords, and selected email account passwords. Change anything that a fired user might get on with and make trouble. Some time soon, scan the PC you're using for spyware (password sniffers, keystroke loggers), and if anything is found and removed, change all the passwords again. No telling what a disgruntled employee might have left behind.
