oscommerce: whats your stock purchasing / order system?

Hello

I've been running an oscommerce store successfully now for 4 years now and heavily customised our store so I dont think we will be changing our shopping cart for the foreseable future.

We run a mainly "sold to order" business which means for most sales it wont be in stock so we have to order the items from a variety of different suppliers. The whole process takes around 1 to 2 weeks to complete so we have alot of purchase orders to manage.

What we have been doing to keep track of our purchase orders and customer orders is using shared googledocs (i.e hand copying the data from oscommerce to google docs) and deleting the data when the order is completed.

Obviously this isnt the ideal solution so we were wonding how everyone else handles their orders and stock purchases?

In order to improve our system I was planning to get a programmer to help covert our current usage of googledocs into an custom integrated oscommerce system. But then I was thinking that it would cost alot and maybe there is a already "off the shelf" system that could help us with tracking the orders statuses and purchase orders, etc

I'm just asking if anybody uses any ERM /CRM software and what they can recommend to me?

Hey Simon,

I've been using a combination of a Microsoft Access database and a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet which was a bit of a pain.

My wife is setting something up with Quickbooks Pro. Then I'll just have to grab and install a contribution for it.

Hope that helps a little.

Hi

I have actually been looking at two different open source ERP soulutions

1) WebERP

2) OpenPro

I just need to download each of these and install on our test server to see which one is best suited for our system. There are contributions to sync the oscommerce database with these two ERP systems

Anyone with any experience either of these two systems? (e.g good or bad experiences?)

Hi,

Useful info there Simon thanks; I am going to take a good close look at WebERP for our systems also now I have seen your post. We were looking into using Apache Ofbiz, but the Tomcat server requirement was a big stumbling block for us.

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,

I recommend you also take a look at OpenERP - one of the leading Open Source ERP Solutions - and actually true open source - you can download the complete version for free. There is a connection that has been completed between OSCommerce and OpenERP using the Open Object On Rails connector (OOOR). This is also known as terminatOOOR.

I believe you would find the app powerful and the integration really strong.

There is another native interface as well http://doc.openerp.com/technical_guide/esale_osc.html
