bulmer Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 I am transferring my Online Plant Nursery database to work on OsCommerce. My plants have both a Common Name and a Botanical Name in my database. I was planning on placing the Botanical Names in the products_model field.This would leave the existing products_name field free to input the Common Names.The Botanical Names are unique (which should make them suitable for a model number?)and I do understand that I will have to extend the number of characters allowed in that field, within the database.But is this a good idea? Or could it cause problems in the future? Should I make up a separate field instead for the Botanical Names and come up with another form of unique identifier? Any ideas, anyone?
