I'm quite happy with my own little mod, installs in about 20 seconds and causes no noticable slowdown.

There is only one engine to worry about and that's google (froogle), the others aint worth a 2nd glance (looking at almost 3 years worth of transfer-log). AV used to be good, not any longer.

Teoma might become big but it's unlikely, as the general public don't know about it. Ask Jeeves is just plain rubbish. alltheweb.com could be a contendah, but I see little hittage from it even though we are at #1 on both google (99.9% hittage) and alltheweb(.1%).

The rest are minnows getting their dump from the likes of Dmoz, where SID and all the rest of it don't matter.

Amazing transformation really.

I remember a time when things were more evenly spread in the search engine world, but no more!

Google is the Daddy!

BTW - Have any you guys ever come accross Mirago?

Only reason I ask is I used to know a number of people there very well, due to business.

They have a great setup, but somewhere along the line lost the plot to be a major search engine and have gone in a different direction these days.

Not much cop really, so I wonder why I asked?? :?

Mirago get their stuff from Dmoz as well. As you say, another minnow.

Btw, Overture are buying Altavista, so that might do some good for AV.

Really...

I will keep my eyes on it and see if we have a google killer on our hands...

Wont hold my breath tho.

How 'bout Inktomi/MSN? Seems like a lot of retail sites have good luck with those, especially recently. Supposedly large surges in money making traffic, according to the kindly folks at webmasterworld.com (I highly recommend *everyone* here read and/or participate at WMW!0.

There is a "search" link up there ^

Try searching for "Google" and reading through some very long threads.
