fush Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 At the risk of sounding a bit dim, I have a very basic question which I hope you don't mind me asking. I am thinking of having a dabble with an online store. Is it as simple as downloading the thing and then using the software/admin page to make it happen, or do I need all kinds of other things to host my sites, severs etc. As you can see im new to it, very new, and want to learn, and want to have a play with it all first. also, how much does it cost? Thanks
spooks Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 You can use the software as is, you don't have to add anything, but there are 1000s of mods u can add to make it as u want. You will need to buy a domain & get hosting that provides php,sql (1 dbase) preferable on a linux based server. It costs nothing!!! Just your time to learn. kuai Posted November 2, 2009 Posted November 2, 2009 If you just want to dabble and save yourself some $$ while learning, try downloading xampp at http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html. There are versions for Linux, Mac, Windows, Solaris, etc. Xampp has the server, database, and everything to get you started. Also, follow Spooks advice. Kuai
