Guest Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 I noticed my site has been slow lately and contacted my host. They said they think it is because of google. I logged into my webmaster tools and found the following. Google in crawling 8853 pages day/high 4599 pages day/average 1820 pages day/low kb/day is 86352 day/high 30140 day/average 11578 day/low To me that didn't mean much except google was doing a good job of going through the site (I have 37,000 products FYI). So is the host correct that my site is running slow due to google? I was on a shared server and I just switched to a private server. The host said my site will run faster on a private server, but I really know NOTHING about this aspect of it so thought I'd see what some of you think who know more than I about it.
Guest Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Just to follow up - my site was successfully switched to a private server last night... my parse time went from over 3 seconds to .3 seconds! A huge improvement and I'm sure my conversion will go back up (it dipped down a bit I believe due to the slow loading pages and people getting tired of it and moving on!).
web-project Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 it's not the Google slowing your website down it's the shared hosting server. andy_1984 Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 yes a private server will be faster as its not sharing bandwidth with other users of that hosting company if you were previously on a shared hosting package. edit: alex beat me to it :)
web-project Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 yes a private server will be faster as its not sharing bandwidth with other users of that hosting company if you were previously on a shared hosting package. not only the bandwidth, but also the CPU & RAM resources. As some shared hosting companies oversell their servers and host up-to 1000 websites/accounts per server. Please read this line: Do you want to find all the answers to your questions? click here.
